Roy John Bergstrom 11/7/10 - 12/25/00
Roy John Bergstrom died December 25, 2000, from complications of an auto accident. He was a resident of Port Angeles, WA for the past five years.
Bro. Bergstrom was born November 7, 1910, to Emil and Ellen (Swanson) Bergstrom in Seattle, where he attended Ballard High School and Griffin Business College and was employed by the Bank of California.
Bro. Bergstrom was Initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason into St. John's Lodge No. 9 on June 29, 1932. He was Passed to a Fellowcraft Mason, October 29, 1932, and Raised a Master Mason, November 12, 1932. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Fraternity for 68 years.
He married Lois Jean Brown on June 29, 1935, in Sequim, WA.
During World War II he served as chief clerk in the civil service on Indian Island in Jefferson County. He also was in charge of personnel.
In 1948, Roy opened an Army/Navy surplus store in Port Towsend. In 1964 he opened a department store, selling sporting goods, hardware, and clothing, and remained there until retirement at the end of 1978.
He earned distinguished service on the selective service board, was a member of the Sportsman's Club of Port Townsend, and was the first scoutmaster in Chimacum, WA.
Always active, his passions were fishing, hunting, golf, and most recently, even at the age of 90, dancing. He was especially famed in the area for his love and skill of sports fishing.
Survivors include sons Robin and Steven and their families. They include two granddaughters and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, in 1987.
